Bus & Bike
Feel like biking the Great Taste Trail?
Here's some ideas for you and the family to make the most of a bike and bus opportunity.
Your bike travels for free when booked with a fare paying passenger. Fares are $6 per person one-way. Up to four (4) bikes can be booked. E-bikes require their batteries to be removed before travelling.
From Nelson/Richmond
Saturday - have a full day on the Great Taste Trail and stay the night in Motueka. Make sure you book your accommodation and evening meal as Summer is a popular time here. Take the bus back to Nelson Sunday after enjoying the Motueka Sunday Market, departing Motueka isite at 1pm back to the Aquatic Centre and have a swim.
Sunday - start spinning your wheels before it gets hot.
Our day looked like this; an 8am start at Richmond Aquatic Centre, cycle the Great Taste Trail, enjoy the scenery and birds away from the road and traffic, take a small detour for Rabbit Island coffee at the cart, back on the trail and out for a swim at Rabbit Island (the cold showers are great too), take the ferry to Mapua, enjoy lunch and check out the local market (Sundays) then head down to the Mapua Community Centre early to load your bikes and depart at 1.25 pm back to Richmond and the Aquatic Centre by 2pm. The day is still young!
From Motueka
Saturday - you'll be in Richmond by 10.30am, fancy hitting the hills? Or if you bike into Nelson there's always the mountain bike park up the Brook Valley. Be back in Richmond for the 2pm departure. Or maybe you deserve an overnight in Nelson? If yes, enjoy the city and be back in Richmond to depart Sunday at 5pm back to Motueka. Or you could have a full day biking back home to Motueka via the Great Taste Trail.
Sunday - fancy a later start? Enjoy a full day in the Motueka/Tasman region and catch the bus back to Motueka from Mapua leaving 5.35pm. You'll be back in Motueka by 6pm. Fancy dinner out?
